GB PENNY BLACK (AA) BRIGHT BLUE Undated *WHITWELL* Cancel 1840 Piece RED Maltese Cross RARE YBLUE5 AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE COMBINATION OF BLUE & RED COLOURED CANCELLATIONS. This combination not listed by Stanley Gibbons. Note BRIGHT BLUE *WHITWELL* (North Yorkshire) Undated Circle employed as initial cancellation on the 1d Black. Stamp is well tied by a very fine strike of this postmark. Then over-cancelled by normal RED MALTESE CROSS. This NORTH YORKS pre-stamp postmark not seen by us as  a "TOWN CANCELLATION" before. Penny Black is slightly cut-into at SE corner. Piece has horizontal wrinkle/bend as can be seen on rear scan. Nevertheless possibly a UNIQUE combination of cancellations. Overall Good for an item of this type and period. Please look at all the scans to help form your own opinion. Priced & sold with all faults considered (WAF).
