Clearly signed *PALMERSTON* the then BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY. An important POLITICAL & DIPLOMACY item.Displays a lovely strike of the *S* directional mark of GIBRALTAR struck in blue-green. The cover is twice dated 1848 by German transit & arrival date-stamps. This seems to represent a significant early usse of the VIA SPAIN *S* marking. Very Fine for an item of this type & period.
