General notes on Terms of Business:

Returns

We offer a 14 day ‘no quibble’ money back guarantee on all Samwells items, providing the item is returned in original condition as sent.

Shipping Charges

We offer free shipping for all orders through our website.

Availability

All items are offered subject unsold. We will respond to e-mail and telephone enquiries as soon as we are able to confirm the availability of items. Please note that if multiple orders are received for a single item ‘Reserve Requests’ will be given priority over general or qualified ‘Enquiries’ made through our system.

Terminology

We have extensive experience of retailing postal history items of all types for over 25 years and aim to describe any significant faults in our hand-written notes on our dealer card. Grading of items is stated in the context of that typical of the age and condition of similar items. We use the term ‘EL’ to describe an Entire Letter with original letter content intact. ‘E’ to mean Envelope (not ‘Entire’ which we find to be a confusing term & do not use) & ‘Cover’ to mean other forms of intact postally carried items other than a ‘Wrapper’ which is used to describe open ended items. Typical covers of the Victorian period will often be folded outer letter sheets (‘OLS’) from which content has long since been removed without affecting the completeness of the outer postal cover. We also adopt certain terms from the manuscript market such as ‘ALS’ meaning Autograph Letter Signed by a named significant writer. We ALWAYS describe when an item has been reduced to a ‘Front’ (i.e. an address panel only) not only on our dealer card, but also at the end of our ‘blue’ computer ‘link’ description in brackets thus {front only}.

Grey Number

All Samwells items on our website have individual unique bold grey reference numbers, usually at the top left of our dealer card. This number also appears in rectangular brackets at the end of our computer link descriptions eg [A103c], [1840.17], [134g] etc. The use of this number greatly enhances our chances of locating and processing your order quickly. If our e-mail enquiry system (below a selected item) is used this number is automatically confirmed to us & you need do no more.

Provenance

Where an item has provenance known to us we will state this in the form ‘Ex Lady Mairi Bury’, ‘Ex Shaida’ etc

Certification

Where an item is accompanied by an existing Certificate of Authenticity this will be clearly stated in the form of ‘RPS Cert’, ‘BPA Cert’ etc. Such items will not be sold subject to further authentication by other bodies. Should a Certificate be required by a client on other Samwells items then this should be confirmed with your order and the intended Certifying body notified to us before purchase.
